My name is Doug Sly and I am the owner and artist.

I have always been a creative person. I love to build and create new things. I love bringing life to old things.  I grew up in Michigan and moved to Florida after graduation. I love hunting, fishing,  the woods and especially the ocean.  I'm definitely an outdoors man and yes I am an Eagle Scout!
 

I have worn many hats in my life. One was as a chef. I love to cook and I love the process of cooking. That is why blade making is a craft I enjoy. I know how tools make the job easier and more enjoyable. I appreciate a great knife that I can use and know that it will do what I want it to do. I understand the little nuances that make for a great knife. I appreciate the upkeep and the sharpness of a quality knife.

It is with those things in mind that inspire me to make the best knives that I can.

 

Another hat I wear is that of a Tractor Man/Fence Builder.

My mowing business has led me to the recycling of my bush hog blades into knives. This is where Mowing Man Forge became my moniker. The fencing side of the business has led to  building of horse stalls, arenas, turtle houses, duck runs and other fun items.  I love to envision ideas and find unique ways to create them.
